Get your business card information wrong and you are on a hiding to nothing. Which is why I was silenced to disbelief the other day at something I encountered!
I was at a networking event when I met the managing director of an air conditioning company. It was incredibly noisy but, somehow, I managed to ascertain that he required a website revamp and Search Engine Optimisation. I promised to do a website audit, which I duly did, and e-mail it to him. It was done by close of business the same day and, a couple of days later, I followed up with a telephone call. “I haven’t received anything,” he said, so I sent the e-mail again and put in another call 48 hours later. Again the chap claimed “I’m sorry I still haven’t received your e-mail”. I was mystified because I had not had any e-mail bounces so I checked the e-mail address and read it back to him. “Ah, you’ve got your e-mail address wrong,” proclaimed my smug prospect. “Ah, I took the e-mail address off your card which is in front of me,” was my equally smug retort. The managing director suddenly became a little contrite. “The e-mail address on my card has changed and I am using them (the business cards) up. I only have a few left!”. I was gobsmacked. ‘Using them up!’. How much damage does this type of action do to your brand? What does it say about you as a company? If you can’t get your business card right then can you really expect people to trust the service or products you offer? Take pride in your brand in the same way you would your work, otherwise you will look like a second rate outfit and lose business

While we’re on the subject of ‘Business Cards’, when you want to impress your clients and potential investors and financial partners, always pay close attention to details that convey stability and professionalism for your company. Start with the design and quality of your business checks. They may be small details, but they are good tools to get your message across.
