The networking organisation, Business Network International, has a great philosophy, ‘giver’s gain’, encouraging people to give first before receiving. That’s all very well providing both parties have been members!I was at a networking event in Leeds towards the end of April, when I met a guy from a telecoms company and offered to complete a keyword audit of his website. During our discussions he also said what he was looking for, and I went out of my way to give him the inside track on a lead, although I did indicate that he shouldn’t mention my name. Meanwhile, I completed the Keyword Audit of his company website, identifying a number of coding issues. I sent him an e-mail, following it up with four of five telephone calls and a similar number of e-mails. I am still awaiting his reply!
Half an hour ago I sent him a polite (and coded) e-mail extracting myself from the relationship. Some people never learn because I now consider him ignorant and feel annoyed because I know how hard I tried for him. I’ll never help him again. Remember, the worst enemy you can have is a silent one…..because you’ll never know when he’s coming!
