Ever met someone who says ‘Don’t forget to remind me to do such and such a thing on Thursday’, then they give you a hard time when you forget to remind them to do the thing that THEY should have remembered to do themselves? Make a list, don’t look for someone to blame for your own failings.
It is something that many people do in order to justify their own inadequacies, however, the habit is easily broken by engaging in some good old list making. Personally I compile a daily list of actions and meticulously work through my bullet points until they are all done and, if there are any left over when the day’s run out, the unresolved items are carried through to the next day. People who make lists achieve more in life.
Right now there is an item on my scrap of paper which reads ‘write your blog’. Voila! I have now struck a line through that point and, when I am done here, I will be going to the garage to check my car tyre pressures! Another item off my list. Lists are fantastic and, no they are not the realm of anoraks and nerds, they are the stuff of successful people because they focus your mind on the important and, indeed, the mundane, for even mundane things have to be done. So, when you are focussing on something that needs doing, write it down. Don’t turn your friend, mum, dad, or brother into the ‘memory man’ then blame them for your failings. Make a list!
